Bio

MauriceMaurice Cahen was born in Saint Germain en Laye, France.  He began studying classical guitar while playing jazz in the Paris area. He traveled back and forth to Spain, where he discovered his love for traditional and contemporary Spanish music.

In 1982, Maurice moved to the United States to study at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, followed by studies with Charlie Banacos and Dimitri Goryachev.  Since then, he has collaborated with various musicians: pianist John Medeski, pianist Danielo Perez, and drummer Bob Moses, among others.  He is a co-founder of Elysia Chamber Players and has published original chamber music for flute and guitar. Maurice has toured Israel with The Little Big Band and Brazil with his own quartet and duo.  Since then, Maurice has created numerous ensembles such as Reflection and Brazilian Serenade; various duos and trios (featuring his original work, improvisation, etc.) exploring all sorts of styles, instrumentations, and genres (Classical, Latin, etc.).

Maurice now lives in Medford, Massachusetts, where he composes, performs, and teaches.  He offers instruction at his home studio and at the Winchester Community Music School.
